They are basicly spread out thru the Tanarisian desert. Little heaps of sand in the desert, oooh the joy.

BUT, as them being near ancient ornaments, or so the goblin lets us believe, they seem to be concetrated around the ruins.

Advisable to pick the q up as soon as you can, and then do the other Tanaris quests and keeping the helmet on.

Two words: Eastmoon Ruins

Eastmoon Ruins is in the middle of the southern third of Tanaris. There are easily 20 markers on your mini-map for the ornaments.

As Annathor said, Eastmoon Ruins is a good place to get these. If you run out of them there, try Southmoon Ruins south-west of Eastmoon. Remember you get the detector! (I did the whole quest without it =/)

Just to be clear, these things don't drop off of mobs, they are found in the white sand clumps scattered across the desert. Putting on the helmet just allows you to track them, it isn't necessary for harvesting.
