News Round Up: Tabard Slot, Pugging 4.0 Content, and STARS Exploits
So now that the dust has settled from 4.2's eerily smooth launch, it's back to raiding and waiting to see what 4.3 will bring. While we wait, though, we have some interesting blue posts and a round up of what's been going on so far.
On some servers, the new dailies have been resetting. A lot. Many players are already on or about to be on the third stage. If you find yourself up at 3AM when dailies should reset on your server, they may reset again at 4AM and then again at 5AM. Hopefully it gets straightened out.
Daily quests aside, there are some even bigger "exploits" rumored to be happening right now that's got the PvE scene worked up. The well-known guild STARS decided to kill Ragnaros like many of us did--his death is required before you can begin heroic modes, much like how ICC had the LK as a gating mechanic for heroics. Unlike the rest of us, however, they took it a step farther when right after their kill the entire guild faction transferred to reset their raid lock, forming
a new guild
. This is clearly not an intended use of game mechanic and, in the past, when guilds have done thi

News Roundup: Patch 4.2 Rage of the Firelands Official Trailer, DK Tanking, Questing Clarifications
It's coming...
Patch 4.2 Rage of the Firelands Official Trailer
Blizzard has just unveiled the official trailer for
Patch 4.2: Rage of the Firelands
! Enjoy!
Across the breadth of Azeroth, the Horde and the Alliance have dealt crushing blows to Deathwing's elemental minions and fanatic Twilight's Hammer cultists. Through it all, the Earthen Ring has never wavered from its tireless charge, holding Azeroth itself together amid the tidal fury and errant magical energies that churn at the Maelstrom. Yet as the elements continue their chaotic upheaval, it seems that the noble shamanic order might finally be on the verge of breaking beneath the great weight that rests on its shoulders. Even Thrall, for all of his wisdom and skill, has grown aggravated by his failure to effectively communicate with Azeroth's elements. Recently, his calls were acknowledged, but the malevolent entity that responded has only intensified Thrall's fears and doubts....

News Roundup: Valor Point Conversion Clarification, Dragonwrath Proc Details
Just a few new Blizzard posts today, during this quiet calm before the inevitable storm that is Patch 4.2! Today Blizzard has posted a more detailed explanation of the

Valor Point Conversion in Patch 4.2
World of Warcraft update 4.2, Rage of the Firelands, will introduce the first new raid tier in Cataclysm, and with that it will also introduce the first conversion from Valor Points to Justice Points. For anyone running Heroics and raids, this is important information to ensure you spend your points wisely before release of the patch.

Patch 4.2: 3D Models for Firelands' Weapons and Offhands
Back in the beginning of March,
we posted a large collection of 3D models
for weapons and offhands we had discovered through datamining. Of course, this was all before Firelands was pushed into the next patch; with that bit of news, our models got lost in the depths of the blog.
However, since we recently provided a
list of drops from Firelands
, this is a good time to check out what these items will look like in addition to knowing their stats. Although the jury's still out on the tier sets, personally we think these models are looking pretty awesome.
Update:
We have included screenshots of the models that weren't previously mentioned in our blogs.

Patch 4.2: Crystallized Firestones Used to Upgrade Gear Into Heroic iLevels
There's a new vendor and loot system up after today's patch on the 4.2 PTR. Outside of
Terres de Feu
, there's a new vendor
Lurah Wrathvine
that flies on a
Hippogriffe gardeflamme
. In exchange for one
Pierre de feu cristallisée
--an item which drops from heroic mode bosses every kill--she will upgrade an item into its heroic version. It is worth mentioning that the base items for these upgradeables can come from both from the Valor Points vendor in Orgrimmar/Stormwind and from the Firelands raid. Currently only twenty-one items are affected, but what's the most important are that the relics are affected along with wands and other ranged weapon slots. This means that, unlike current content, we won't be in max ilevel gear with a significantly lower level relic slot.
Interestingly enough, there are also some items for other slots--like a leather belt and a necklace. This may mean that Blizzard will use this vendor to enhance loot tables without having to needlessly increase the diversity and RNG of a boss' loot table. It will be a smart way to make sure that seven bosses have an entire tier's worth of ilevel, for sure. As I speculated previously, with the loot tables being so varied, they had a good opportunity to pull s

Patch 4.2: Ragnaros 10-man Preview and Strategy
We got a chance to check out Ragnaros yesterday on 10-man normal mode. Seeing a final boss for an instance on the PTR is a rare treat; Blizzard usually doesn't give away the end of the instance so easily and it was surprisingly polished except for a minor glitch with visuals on the platform.
As you might remember from
the dungeon journal entry
, Ragnaros is a three phase fight in normal mode. There's an additional fourth phase in heroic. We were able to get him down into phase three and close to a kill. He seemed a little undertuned, even if it was 10-man normal mode and it is PTR. It was just too easy to get down quickly. This was largely because few abilities were punishing--it was only in phase three and during intermissions which served as phase transition that you could wipe from a single mistake.
We made a quick video to show you the footage of our progress (special thanks to my guild
Out of Line
for being awesome and helping). This video is a rough guide and hopefully will give you a better overview of the fight's general progression. Of course, if you prefer text, there's a

Patch 4.2: Firelands Boss Loot Including Where Pureblood Fire Hawk Drops
Thanks to the Encounter Journal feature on the PTR, we now have what drops from what boss in our knowledge for
Terres de Feu
. This is pretty awesome and it confirms things most people speculated about ilevels, including how
Ragnaros
has an elevated ilevel like
Sinestra
does from current content (as well as a mace that any Holy paladin would probably kill to have).
Pierre de feu cristallisée
also drops from all heroic modes of bosses it seems and it is uncertain as to what this item is used for, though it could quite possibly be used to upgrade armor pieces.
A lot of people thought that
Œuf fumant de Millagazor
would drop from a rare mob, but no, that's also our favorite Firelord. Speaking of mounts, however, it's possible that since
Serres-de-Flammes d'Alysrazor
isn't tied to a loot table for a boss currently that it could be from a rare mob or a random drop from doing the zone quests--which
Alysrazor
plays a role in. We'll have to wait and see.

News Roundup: On Upcoming Raid Nerfs, BlizzCon Tickets, New Support Site
Just a few new Blizzard posts today after earlier's
major update to the patch notes
, including a clarification on the decision behind the upcoming raid dungeon content nerfs. In addition, Blizzard reminds us of the upcoming (second) sale of BlizzCon tickets, available this Thursday. They've also launched a brand new support site, which allows users to submit tickets via a web interface instead of the clunky in-game method! Sounds awesome to me. :)
On 4.2 Raid Content Nerfs
I'm sure you guys noticed the
massive list of raid nerfs
coming in 4.2, intended to offer players easier access to content that they may not have gotten to experience. Blizzard has certainly learned from their past mistakes in making and then keeping content inaccessible and now wishes to keep content challenging while it's new and then as new content becomes available, gradually move previous content to a PUGable level. Is this a good thing? What do you guys think?
Plenty of people like the challenge, but not everyone has the ability or maybe even desire to be in a guild capable of tackling it right from the get-go.

Dungeon Journal Preview: All Seven Firelands Encounters Unveiled
The PTR updated this weekend with the encounter journal. The developers at Wowhead have been working on integrating it into our database entries and it's an exciting feature you should see soon. However, in this case, soon isn't enough: you probably want to see it right now. Well, you can! With the help of volunteers ArgentSun, Perculia, and Remnath, I've transcribed the data you care about--
Terres de Feu
!
Below are the encounter journals for all seven bosses in the zone (plus Occu'thar in Baradin Hold), so tread lightly if spoilers scare you. Of course, if you're into seeing what you'll be facing on 4.2, go and indulge yourself. It's worth it. Ragnaros is the best looking fight in particular; it's epic on a level that
Dans la nuit noire (25 joueurs)
was in
Ulduar
and quite similar in design, too. During the fight on heroic mode, you will face an additional stage in which you will be aided by three familiar friends: Cenarius, Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem, and Malfurion Stormrage. It sounds a lot like the Keepers in Ulduar.
Anyway, if these journals are any indication, this dungeon should cure a lot of burnout players have been facing. And hey, who knows, maybe those ~600,000 subscribers Blizzard "lost" will come back on patch d

Patch 4.2: Lord Rhyolith PTR Strategies and Preview
Today on PTR we got some time with the newly renamed
Lord Rhyolith
. He's a well-tuned encounter and one we preferred to yesterday's boss,
Beth'tilac
. Some of his mechanics were refreshing, particularly in the way you actually controlled him, and we managed to test both phases of the fight thoroughly. If you've done
Supremus
or
Kologarn
, you'll find some elements from those bosses borrowed and rehashed with
Lord Rhyolith
.
Phase one starts out different from most fights as there is no need to tank him. He ambles around slowly and does not attack directly; instead, the real threat is where he intends to walk. Consequently, you'll need to steer him where you want him to path by attacking his left and right legs--applying DPS to the leg in which direction you want him to turn. We found it best to only have two or three melee on him at most communicating on ventrilo where they wanted him to turn and calling out switches. There is also a bar on the screen the indicates how much in the respective direction Rhyolith will be turning to help you out.
Your immediate goal in steering him is to make sure that he stays

Patch 4.2: Beth'tilac PTR Strategies and Preview
The PTR was open today for testing on Firelands 10-man and we were able to get some time with
Beth'tilac
. Unfortunately the US servers got a lot less time with this boss than EU and we only got eight or so attempts in before the server was shut down.
Beth'tilac
is the spider boss
first previewed by Blizzard
at the end of April. She ended up being a fairly simple fight. Of course, as usual for the PTR, she was untuned and will most likely change in the future. The encounter has two easily defined phases: the first is a kiting phase, the second is a burn phase. For phase one, you split into groups for below her web and on top of it; for phase two, everyone groups up underneath her web and you must kill her before her increasing damage is too high while dealing with a debuff similar to
Gluth
's
Blessure mortelle
.
Overall, it's a fun introductory fight and seems to serve well as a gear check for the zone.

Patch 4.2 Preview: Trinkets From Firelands
With 4.1 and 4.2 being split up last month unexpectedly, our database has a few vestiges of content that technically exist on live that don't drop yet. Of these items, the most important are the trinkets. Trinkets are probably World of Warcraft's most loved and hated item; they never seem to drop when you need them to. Firelands, of course, has its own set of new trinkets. While the PTR is not up yet for us to see what boss they will come from, we have them here for your viewing pleasure. We featured them a few months ago, but they got lost in the numerous updates made since.
Something interesting about this tier of trinkets is that they all have unique procs or on uses--there are also
a lot
of them, fifteen for each version of the raid. I wonder if one set of the trinkets is possibly from a quest reward that's different in normal and heroic, something akin to

from Wrath of the Lich King's

Patch 4.2: Tier 12 Armor Sets for Paladin, Mage, Rogue, Hunter, Death Knight, and Priest
This is probably the preview we've all been waiting for! Quests and zones are nice, but what everyone really wants to know is how they'll be looking for the next several months. Well, it's a mystery no longer for some classes; Blizzard just released a preview of how tier 12 armor sets will look for
Paladin
,
Mage
,
Voleur
,
Chasseur
,
Chevalier de la mort
, and

. We'll let the images do the talking and have you form your own opinions in the comments as we're too busy staring at the hunter one and thinking about

and that's awesome.
All in all, 4.2 seems to really be living up to the anticipation it built. These recent previews have made it seem like Firelands will be a rewarding patch for raiders; the questlines look epic, the bosses look interesting, and
Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest
looks to be the most complex legendary since
Atiesh, grand bâton du Gardien
. Even the daily hubs look engaging--Blizzard seems to have learned its lessons from Argent Tournament Grounds and the Isle of Quel'Danas.

But wait--they're not stopping there with this preview! According to Blizzard, besides having seven new bosses, 4.2 will also have new mounts, achievements, guild challenges, and a new tier of gear as well as weapons. All in all, it looks like this is warming up to be a really good patch. Hopefully it will be one that serves as this expanion's Ulduar; memorable and rewarding for all ranges of players.
