Its for a quest in STV I think. And maybe for Jewelcrafting?

The items are gray, meaning they have no real use and can, in most cases, safely be sold to a vendor for roughly 86 copper pieces. They are not part of any current/available quest string as far as I know.

However, Rastlaus has a very good point in that they may be used in the forthcoming expansion as part of the new Jewelcrafting profession. If so, this can benefit any player because the crystals can A) be used to increase the new profession's skill level, or B) be sold on the auction houses to Jewelcrafters, netting you some profit for your farming endeavors!

Strange that they should have such a specific name for a junk item that comes from one mob.

Maybe not...the AH price on the proudmoore server for them runs 27S. Some one has found a use for them.

If the name is gray, it's junk. People put junk on Auction Hall all the time hoping somebody will not realize it's useless and buy it.

Thottbot suggests they disenchant into Medium leather. I suspect that's just a bug, but it can't hurt to try...
