...look for the blue glow.

once you accept the quest this item is involved with, you get a shovel and the ability to see a blue glow, near where the markers for the 'Dirt Mound' are. The ability requires no activation.

Use the shovel when on the small blue column of light (it's kinda hard to notice at first), then the dirt mound appears, loot the dirt mound, and viola: Cobalt.

Thanks, I'm one of those fellows who doesn't read the quest text so closely. I thought I was in the wrong area.

To clarify, it's not much a column but more of a blueish ring on the ground. I thought they were flowers at first. There is no 'interaction' cursor, so you have to use the shovel manually.

I assumed the cobalt would be in the caves, and although there is some there, it's impossible to see the blue glow inside the Gordunni caves. I did stumble upon a few nodes through dumb luck.

Look for the "blue glows" in clusters. Once the "blue glows" are converted to mounds, the cobalt drop rate from the mounds is about 50%. You can see which mounds contain the cobalt however, since they retain the blue glow. The remaining mounds contain chipped teeth and other worthless (50c) items.

Pretty easy to do, and if you have the first ogre quest they are in that area too, so it's easy to finish off two quests at the same time.

Use the shuvvel near the blue things in the ground. and then dirtpiles popp up.
