Silas' Sphere of Transmutation and Alchemy Profession Questline for Tools of the Trade

In Patch 8.1.5, crafters unlock new Tools of the Trade questlines, rewarding special profession items! Today we are reviewing the Alchemy questline coming in Patch 8.1.5, which rewards
Sphère de transmutation de Silas
. This item lets you find various cauldrons that reward flasks, as well as get disguises, teleport around zones, and increase your BFA recipe proc chance!
Alchemy Questline
In
Jeter la première pierre
you craft a
Potion de durabilité
and
Potion des états mouvants
using
Feuilles de mousse étoilée séchée
and
Écailles de trouble-sable
around the shop. However, combining them results in a explosion.
Would you mind helping me out with something, <name>?
<Elric motions you over to him.>
You see, I have this recipe that, well, I only have half of currently. I've been trying to remember the other half but just can't seem to recall it.
My EX-partner tore the recipe and ran off with the other half over a disagreement we were having. But the stone it makes is invaluable.
How about you grab some vials and start mixing the ingredients on this list. Perhaps together we can figure this out.
In
Extraits oculaires
and
Paysagisme alchimique
you try out all sorts of different reagents to craft the stone. Unfortunately, one leads to a fiery explosion, while another leads to a
glitter
explosion.
My next idea involves a creature whose eyes are useful for certain alchemical recipes. At least for potions they are.
Hopefully they're just what we need for this and there aren't any further... miscalculations. Although, I don't entirely recall seeing them on the recipe's ingredient list... but my memory isn't exactly as good as it used to be.
Oh, you caught me rambling. How about you get those eyes and I'll start making the preparations for them.
The stone this recipe becomes is a transmutation stone. What if the missing reagents to make it come from something that's gone through the transmutation process?
I'm willing to try anything at this point. Here's an old recipe my ex-partner devised.
He used to go out to Stormsong Valley, just south of the Highland Flats and change the shrubs there into bubbles.
Bring back some of those bubbles and we'll see if they're what we've been missing.
In
Une solution possible
, you visit the ex-partner,
Quentin Whalgrene
, in Drustvar. He was added back in Patch 8.0, and didn't really serve a purpose--until now.
Nothing appears to be working. I can't believe I'm proposing this but I actually think we need to contact Quintin.
Well, you should, as I doubt he'll speak to me. Perhaps you could convince him to part with the other half of the recipe?
Last time I heard, he was staying in Drustvar near Arom's Stand. There's a lot of alchemists in those parts, but he shouldn't be too hard to find.
Best not to tell him I sent you. He may not be as forthcoming with the recipe.
When you meet Quentin, he says the following:
Who do we have here? I don't suppose you're an old apprentice of my little brother, come to learn true alchemy, are you?
<You explain to Quentin that you're researching a special transmutation stone and that he might be able to help you.>
Oh, interested in making one of those, are you? Well, just like transmutation there must be some equivalent exchange.
You're going to have to do some things for me first. You can have the pleasure of being MY apprentice.
You then gather materials in
Une décoction mortelle
and
À un jet de pierre
. These materials are a bit more sinister than the earlier ones you gathered--
Champignon de la mort
and
Fiole de sang altéré
.
The first thing I'd like you to do for me is to gather some deathshroom.
Don't worry if you're not skilled at herbalism, they're very easy to pick. They typically grow where death lingers in the air.
I'd try to the Crimson Forest to the south. The creatures that have overrun it seem to be covered in deathly magics.
You may enjoy getting this next reagent for me. I have some special stones that have transmutative qualities, especially on living things. It's not too unlike the one you're trying to make.
The witches that plague these lands are imbued with magic. As is their blood.
I need their blood to finish my latest project, but in an altered form. These stones should turn them into weaker creatures. Although, sometimes the opposite occurs...
I'd recommend handling them with care.
With the reagents collected, you head to a cave in
Purification chimique
to watch the transmutation occur.
That appears to be everything. This latest transmutation will be my finest yet. And your prize waits at its completion, apprentice.
But I don't believe this is an appropriate place to test it out. It may draw too much attention.
There's a cave not terribly far from here which would prove to be a more suitable setting for such a test.
Meet me there when you're ready to witness why transmutation is the only branch of alchemy worth learning.
When you arrive at the cave, Quintin is already starting to feel the effects of the transmutation. He then turns into the hostile
Cauchemar des bois
, which you must defeat.
Afterwards, you loot Quintin's nearby satchel.
This bag must have belonged to Quintin. As you rummage through it, you see a slip of paper that appears to be torn. You grab the parchment and begin reading.
You then loot the recipe in
La recette du succès
....but
why
is Silas Darkmoon, from the Darkmoon Faire, involved? That's a mystery for another day. (But if you'd like to read more on Darkmoon Faire speculation, check out
Darkmoon Faire and the Old Gods
!)
Looking it over more closely, you're convinced that this must be the missing half of the recipe you came for.
An odd signature completes the recipe, signed, "Silas Darkmoon".
Elric should be very pleased to see this once again.
Sphère de transmutation de Silas
With this item, you can find various Boiling Cauldrons across Kul Tiras and Zandalar that grant flasks like
Flacon du vaste horizon
. In addition, once every hour, you can turn the sphere into one of four special items randomly, on a 1h cooldown:
Fiole de guérison perpétuelle de Silas
: Provides a heal once a minute - essentially a reusable
Potion de soins côtière
Carafe de déguisement de Silas
: Be disguised for 10 minutes - we turned into a Tortollan
Pierre de transport de Silas
: Provides a list of major hubs in the related zone you can teleport to
Potion de prospérité de Silas
: Increases BFA recipe proc chance for 10 minutes
To craft this item you will need the following:
50
Ancoracée
10
Expulsom
1
Chaudron mystique
1
Potion particulièrement puissante
: Trash by Heartsbane Triad, Waycrest Manor dungeon
1
Sphère de sangaraum
: Priestess Alun'za, Atal'Dazar dungeon
1
Fiole extrêmement précise
: Alchemists, Motherlode dungeon
1

And here we go again , go do this dungeon or go do this bg for recipe ...
Oh no you have to play the game. Please let me pull out my violin for you so we can have some matching music for how sad a statement like this is.
No. You have to play a portion of the game you do not wish to play. I do not wish to run dungeons to advance professions, and I got sick of it back in BC. It happens every expansion, we all know this, but I’m not interested in doing it the same way I am not interested in PvP. Am I missing out? Yep. But I don’t care enough to waste what little time I have.
This is another one of those items that should have been available at launch when people actually wanted to run dungeons, not 6 months later.

Then don't get the item. No one is forcing you to do the quest. Besides, heroic or mythic doesn't appear to be required, how hard are normals nowadays? Please stop your crying. All these other professions complaining they get nothing. Alchemists actually get a nice item, and you cry because it involves a little work?

Enough with professions leading into dungeons already...
Agreed.

Because blizzard wants us to stop using the armor professions apparently. Alchemists get free flasks, longer flasks, free health pots, interesting utility, more valuable everything. This item gives even more value to what alchemists can make. Leatherworkers get underwater diving suits that don't even stack with druids (1/4 leather classes), and a reusable but only personal, on a 1 hour cooldown, ghetto lust that we could already create $%^& loads of using mats from Legion which still haven't been nerfed. Thanks guys.
It kinda evens out considering Alchemy makes crap all in gold, and is basically only useful in saving you gold by using 1 less flask per raid night. In fact, this is going to make Alchemy even less profitable depending on the proc chance of that.
Speak for yourself...I’m raking in the gold as an alchemy. Not sure how this could make it less profitable, it’s a free item you have to spend mats for and you seemingly can use for free after.

This. I don't give a damn for farming Hydrocores particularly when I can't LFG Mythic 0.
