I'm beginning to think - just get rid of heirlooms. They cause more problems than they solve. Making levelling gear feel rewarding again would be a better outcome than these lame bonuses. Refund players who bought them using an appropriate calculation.I also think - the free xp bonus was there to speed up levelling. Now it's been removed, but two or three expansions down the line, the need will be back again. So... What are they going to do? Put the xp bonus back on? Could be an indication blizzard intend to freeze the level cap at 60 permanently and just leave each new expansion with its own power system for players to level through...
The idea that you are entitled to a refund of currency you spend on items because sometime in the future, something you bought might be changed, is absurd. What you are arguing is far reaching: anything you buy with gold must be refunded if said item is not the same sometime in the future, regardless of how long you got use out of it. Ain't gonna happen. It's not a big deal. Gold is trivial to get anyway.
Apparently some people are expecting to get godlike powers from heirlooms in place of a simple xp boost... The set idea is amazing, i would also like to see more heirloom slots implemented BUT these bonus kinda suck, yeah. I would rather have some simple useful effects. It's a good opportunity to implement less popular mechanics that are still fun like say... -(2p)Some buff to professions that gets useless in any SL zone. It could be chance for extra resources when gathering, great to revitalize old world professions a bit. I'd be in for a simple small crafting/gathering spd increase or bigger minimap node radius too.-(4p)To play with 2p, another bonus to profession but based on what you have if it's leveled a bit(25+?). Say you have herbalism: Gathering could give you a small mana/health/resource regen even in combat. Skinning, extra 3% crit vs beasts for some secs after skinning one. You have Blacksmith: Attacking with a weapon with grinding stone buff has a chance to bleed the target during 3s or weight stone to stun for a sec(only in pve). Enchanting: enchanted weapon debuffs target for some secs. Alchemy: Drinking HP/Mana potions also gives some other offensive or defensive potion buff for 20s based on role(making those useless pots an extra silly cd, basically, also great for dungeons).-(6p)Having a Guardian pet or bonus buff based on the zone you're in: Imagine you're in Wetlands and "an adventurer" decides to accompany you, then you step into Twilight Highlands and instead you get a blessing from the Red Dragons giving you some 7% dmg reduction + thorns damage. But you decide that Fighting the Twilight Hammer is too scary and go to Northern Stranglethorn instead, one of Nesingwary's gang may help you out on combat every now and then...It's not that unreasonable, the game mechanics for such things are there and it's not so strong or permanent that will give the player a feeling of loss upon level 50 but it can make the gameplay more dynamic. The power of any such buffs can be reduced to unimportant but desirable nevertheless. You can say "oh i'm not gonna go out of my way to do professions cause it's a waste of time", but the "waste of time" would award you with something that'll help you make up for it, keeping the same pace. And the best: It's completely controlled by players, you won't be triggering and wasting good 2min buffs because you're turning in quests and is a mile away from any other objective.Everything disabled past level 50 or in any Shadowlands zone, obviously.Or they could just go simple and add sockets to heirlooms, that idea actually seems pretty great really.
Yeah, better set bonuses that are in-combat procs or general flat bonuses to movement/mount speed would be better. I don't mind losing the XP bonus, so long as the set bonuses aren't such complete garbage. This really feels like an intern slapped it together in the hour before it was due.
The two rested experience set bonuses are really uninteresting. Not only because you get twice the same effect from the 2 and 6 set bonus, but also because it doesn't encourage gameplay. The only way you get rested exp, is by being AFK or logout of the game while in an inn/city. This thing would be much more interesting if there was another way of obtaining rested exp, and instead of having the heirloom set bonus twice, they should just combine them together for a 6 pieces set bonus and give something else for wearing 2 pieces. The Burst of Knowledge ability seems like something that's gonna be entirely useless half the time. Since the majority of time you level up is by either turning in a quest or finishing a dungeon/BG, the damage proc won't ever hit anything and you'll lose uptime on the buff if all you do is spam dungeon/BG queues while leveling (unless you can get in really quick queues), or if you're still turning/picking up new quests right after leveling.I kinda like DesMephisto's propositions but I think the flying one would be a bit too OP. I would prefer something like: - (2) Movement speed and mounted speed increased by 10% and summoning mounts is 50% faster- (4) Abilities and spells have a chance to reduce CDs the way Ineffable Truth works- (6) Reduce the CD of Hearthstone by 50% and rested experience consumed is reduced by 50% (and/or possibly get a certain amount of rested exp everytime you Hearthstone)
You know how years ago they put in the chauffered mechano-hog if you had X so many heirlooms? (I think it was twenty, but it's so long ago I can't recall specifics...)What they should do this time around, in addition to the lackluster set bonuses that have been placed on heirlooms, is give an Heirloom Flight Master's Whistle to every account that has, oh, I don't know...thirty-five or so distinct individual heirlooms, increased to maximum level? By my rough count, that's enough to cover every available slot for every armor type, melee, caster, or ranged.Heirloom Flight Master's Whistle would be usable by any character, of any level, in any NON-Shadowlands zone, with the same 5-minute cd of the regular whistle. Then, THEN, maybe we could get some functional return on our investment for the massive collections of no-longer-terribly-useful heirlooms that most of us have accumulated over the years.
I no speed leveler, so i presume this comment will be forgoten by few dozen minutes ...But i feel like there still is a potential ...And also i believe we dont need to create anything new, this game allready have dozens of usefull "fun" effects.I see it as:(2) set bonus > Healing out of combat ...- Well, i dont see any problem here ... it could be fine, especialy if it will also replenishment basic resources ...- I can also imagine water walking, or prolonged water breathing, or reduced fall dmg ... simmilar to Gladiator's sanctum(3) set bonus > Short burst of speed on kill ...- The very same effect as The Sentinel's Eternal Refuge have, certainly not gamebreaking ... yet, it helps ...- Or if not ... i would definietly think about bring this shoes to heirlooms, at last since that lvl req. realy killing allmost any usefullness. :((4) set bonus > Reducing cooldown sounds good to me, ...- I would give it incerasing cooldown recover rate for short period of time, again on kill ... or stackable effect, procing by every 5th / 10th kill ... or maybe even just chance to proc, but players usualy dont like rng tho, so stacking buff seem better to me.- The very same effect as for example wand from Il'gynoth have ... i believe the corruption is called Ineffable Truth.(5) set bonus > Incerasing primary stat ...- Ineffable Truth isnt only coruption that can be usefull while exping ... yet it wont be gamebreaking.Another one is just called flash of insight(6) set bonus > Reputation gain bonus by 20% for completing non-repeatable quests in non-shadowland zones.- This i believe will be the most usefull bonus they can give us, lets be honest ... the only reason those reputations are here today is just Achievments, and it usualy can be farmed with many more or less effective ways (some can be even purcased during Timewalking event) ... so why not let us farm some a little bit easier while leveling? :)- Again simmilar effect as we can get from Darkmoon island ... whee or top-hatThe only question that remains is, if this effects should be active in PvP. :-/
im fine with the changes. i've gotten my use out of them after leveling tons of characters. people just like being whiny babies
Meh... I don't think a lot of people would of bought them at all if they were what they are changing them to in SL. That was a huge gold sink for a lot of people because of what they were, and now they are not great. It should prompt a gold refund in the beginning of the game (or at the vendor) to refund all of them or certain ones of your choice if you want. Even 75% or 50% of the original cost or something. A lot of us feel kinda scammed, only because its a huge gold sink. Like what if you spent 5mil on a mount with an auction house attached, then they decided the AH was too powerful and removed it? Just an example, but it kinda feels like that in a way.
I honestly don't mind the Out of Combat regen effect, which really just helps out with less downtime after large pulls in dungeons or questing, but probably severely abused by rogues and night elf utilizing vanish/shadowmeld in BGs to regen quickly while leveling then you're still at 20% health and they've gone from 10%-80% fairly fast. The rest of these bonuses need to go. Not many players that have heirlooms will have a rested bonus. The AOE/buff is useless as most players complete each level via dungeon completion/dungeon quests, and regular quests. You'll barely get to utilize this bonus to any microscopic portion of its potential. Keep the OoC Regen, at 4, add 10% movement speed at 6, and REMOVE the cost to Transmog all BoA items. 2 set bonuses is enough, just place them at blue quality to offset the price people have paid for them, and remove that mog cost (which is just a small token considering you place them on, tmog them once and then leave it).
I agree that the Rested XP bonuses are counter-intuitive at best. Basically you get the most bonus to leveling your characters by not leveling characters? I also have issues with the proc on leveling. Many levels are from submitting quests, or end of dungeon, so the bonus is likely "wasted". Movement speed bonuses are always good. While a few classes are very mobile, most really are not. A War Machine like proc for speed on kill would be nice. Or something like the Rogue Azerite trait Lying in Wait (passive heal away from enemies; speed buff near enemies). There are other options that are "your experience may vary", but currently they are lackluster. As for the concerns with Shadowlands leveling, they do not really matter. This change actually lets Blizz allow Heirlooms to be used earlier in Shadowlands leveling than they would normally give a max level upgrade. Depending on the power of the Heirlooms vs drops, it could still be faster to level with them.
I agree that Blizzard current bonuses aren't good, but suggestions from DesMephisto are even worse.Getting broken OP powers form a #$%^ty heirloom set aren't a good idea, we need something in the middle...
If you are an alt-oholic, this is important. I personally sometimes need a break from raiding and the daily grinds on my 120s, so I look to leveling a new toon as a way to enjoy a vacation. Now keep in mind, I don't want the leveling to become a grind, so the boosted XP is a real important thing to me. No matter which side of the fence you're on, (making changes / keeping things unchanged) these forums are only a part of the process. The most important thing to do is let Blizzard know exactly how you feel and why. They can't ignore it if a huge chunk of their customer base is calling out for something, AND contacting them directly...even if Activision did gut their souls...it's about the bottom line. If they want to make money, they have to keep customers happy.
I do not know who this guy is nor do i care what he has to say. I'm tired of streamers speaking for me.
Still hate leveling
