Ah, I saw this discussion on Twitter, and I repeat my words:I desliked the decision to remove the word, because it showed how rude and despicable Garrosh was in treating others (especially women). But I fully understand the decision to remove it.On the other hand, I saw complain about Sylvannas, in Warcraft 3, calling Arthas a son of a bi***h. And, well, if you can't see the difference between calling a woman a bi**h and the term son of a bi**h, (and the problem with that), it's because you're probably a man.Thank God the world changes - and so do games and Blizzard. If you don't feel comfortable being nice to people, you should leave the game and go back to the 4chan basements.
Man people get offended by anything these days if anything using words like that makes the character seem more " human " i dont really mind it ether way it just seems strange to me to change it in the first place.
While its easy to remove something from a game, its a lot harder to remove something from people's memories, and impossible to remove it from the internet.
The game showcases genocide, but this one word is too much. We, the players, take part in a genocide every expansion. But Light forbid if a bad guys calls another bad guy a naughty word.
I’m very glad to see them removing this misogynistic language from the game. While some women have “reclaimed” that word (as some Black folks have reclaimed the n-word), there remain many to whom the word is hurtful.English is a big enough language that there is no shortage of other terms that can be used without resorting to language rooted in oppression.
But what about THRALL'S BALLS?
I'm sorry, 10 years on and now it hurts people? Honestly, kids pick up curse words even in primary school, so who does this even offend? If it's nobody and this is removing a word for being "pointless" then why don't we just censor everyone? Blizzard, you have future content and staff issues that need addressing in regards to treatment that takes higher precipice than this! Also, what about the reasoning behind the dialogue and what not? It's not like you have characters in game saying something but the voice acting says something else entirely.....oh wait
I'm glad they've changed it, back when i've done that quest i've nearly spilled my soylent all over from the shock of witnessing such an heinous act of misogyny and hate, i squealed so high i nearly woke up my wife's son!
So Sylvanas committing genocide is fine, but an Orc calling her out for her ^&*! is just TOO FAR. Someone get mah fainting couch! I'm having the vapors!
Han shot first and Garrosh used profanity. why are they changing a VILLAIN talking to another VILLAIN to have cleaner language, they are bad guys. bad guy swear, heck good guys swear too, it's just words. FICTIONAL WORDS!Whats next Sylvanas did nothing wrong? Garrosh had some good ideas?
I understand why they did it, but it's always sad to see when they need to sensor a video game so people don't get offended by hearing a word they don't like.
I'm surprised Wowhead enabled commenting for this post.I'm also surprised how changing a word from dialogue 10+ years ago is one of Blizzard's top priorities for the new expansion. What is the next step? Is the word "bastard" going to be removed from the game? Are the main enemies and heroes of an expansion just going to say nice things about each other? So that nobody gets hurt feelings while they are fighting to the death?
That audio clip is now officially in my WeakAuras collection. xD
Meanwhile in General Chat...
Remember, Sylvanas is responsible for countless deaths and immoral decisions including the need to kill the living but someone calling her a bad word? REMOVED.
Glad I kept the screenshot when when I did Cata beta and saw this so I can remind my friends Blizzard had a spine once for powerful storytelling.
Hint: representing prejudice, wickedness, Bad Stuff does not entail approval of prejudice, wickedness, Bad Stuff.I wonder if they've removed that Mount Hyjal quest where you "soften up" Marion Wormwing to interrogate her (one of several torture quests in WoW) before being given the option of asking the "heroic" druid Thisalee Crow to slit her throat.
