With the expansion coming and new blacksmithing recipies on the way, it is a good idea to farm up a few stacks of Thorium bars to get a jump start on skilling up. Also, with changes coming and insecurity in the market place, I'd bet that many AH prices will skyrocket. You can use that to your advantage by having your materials already to use or post up in the AH for a bit more and start earning money for those fancy flying mounts.

A good place to farm for thorium (as well as arcanite crystals) is in the Dark Wisper Gorge, in southern Winterspring.

The area is filled with elite demons but if you are level 60 getting around unharmed is very doable. Stick to the sides of the area and be ready to run for a clearing if you get spotted. As a warrior, i put on my tanking gear and whatever mount speed increases i could find and was able to get around to all the ore there with a little practice.

Go through the tunnels carefuly because demons walk through them periodically. Also try to memorize the layout of the area, it can get a bit confusing. Do what you can to not die (get potions if you need to) because the run back is very long.

Oh, and make a stop by the owl wing thicket every time you pass it. A large Thorium deposit spawns there in one of the caves.

Unfortuntely Thorium will actually be unaffected simply because the new professions do not include it. Along with that, the actual attaining of gold has become easier once BC is released while you're on your way to 70. You would be better off saving this for leveling up blacksmithing rather than selling to the AH since it will be scarcely used.

Now that TBC has been released and settled into the WoW world, this stuff has skyrocketed in price. More people seem to be taking dual crafting professions and it is used in Engineering and Blacksmithing, the two popular ones for getting a big mainhand weapon and an epic head item. Less people are mining this as it drops in the old world and the demand has risen on Earthen Ring EU while the amount farmed is going down. I was suprised to see a stack of Fel Iron Bars going for 6-7g less then Thorium Bars today.

This stuff seems to be a money maker with the large number of people rerolling trade professions to get epic goodies. Only question is how long will it last until things settle down after 2.1.0 revamps and the price stabilises?

Farming Thorium is GREAT on my server. I paid for my Epic ground mount by farming this alone. One stack of bars (20) nets me 33g on average. Not bad for one trip around Winterspring, huh?

Skill tag on this is wrong as of 16/2/08 I have mining 250, bought smelting for thorium and it is Grey. If you were hopeing to get to 250 then buy your way up to 280 by smelting think again.

I found farming Silithus for Ooze Covered Thorium veins works pretty well too, its hardly farmed.

Is searing gorge have lots of thorium? just wanna know because I'm searching for dark iron ore also..just wanna do both of them at the same time..if anyone got map for the thorium nodes, can u show to me?thx

It is expensive because the Nodes that thorium spawns in are often shared with Dark Iron, Truesilver, etc. and therefore harder to farm, people generally want to powerlevel through their professions, and even if they don't its very easy to let mining fall behind in the 200 (level 40) to 300 (level 60) brackets.

This generally leaves people Smelting for Skill ups to catch up to their level, which increases the price of the raw Ores.

This impacts Largely on the price/profitability of Gems from Mithril/Thorium and makes them Very good moneymakers.

As long as you're high enough level to easily kill the mobs in the area, I personally feel that the best place to mine thorium (assuming that you're high enough to mine rich thorium veins) is Silithus. There are tons of oozed covered rich thorium veins (and a few small ones) in the bug hives and hardly anyone is ever in the area (at least on my server). I was able to easily level my mining on my death knight in this area and also found it very helpful to farm thorium in the area to help my main level jewelcrafting.

EDIT: This guide is less accurate now due to the changes of thorium spawning in Un'Goro. Walking around in the caves of Silithus is much more time-consuming then using ur 100% mount in Un'Goro. However, if Un'Goro is crowded by farmers, Silithus is a good second alternative.

Thorium, the radioactive metal Engineerers and Blacksmithers would pay a fortune to get their hands on.
Since most Tanks have blacksmithing as profession, which needs a lot of thorium for skills, makes this is an extraordinary item to farm.

At level 80 you could without problem mine 10 stacks of these/hour (+/-). You only need to know where to farm them.
I'm not a big fan of bugs & insects, but my experience tells me that Silithus is by the far best place to farm thorium ore, becuase of the fast spawn rate and the numbers of Rich veins. There are three areas you wanna visit in Silithus to quickly earn thorium ores.

Hive'Ashi - In the North
Hive'Zora - In the West
Hive'Regal - In the South-East

The thorium does not often spawn on the surface in these 3 areas, you'll have to go underground to find the real treasure.
Each area have 3 caves with big tunnel systems, in each cave you will find 1-2 Ooze Covered Rich Thorium Vein which will give you average 5xThorium Ore. So, with simple math you should get 30x Thorium Ores by only visiting all three areas + the ores you may find travelling between the areas. Of course, if there are more players farming them, you'll get less.

After mining from all areas, the ores in the first area you visited have respawned. This makes Silithus a non-stop thorium farming place, no matter if you are level 60 or level 80.
While farming, you will not only make money from the ores, but also from the rocks and gems that may drop.

Azerothian Diamond
Blue Sapphire
Huge Emerald
Large Opal

Also, to make some extra money suggest getting Agent of Nozdormu or ask a friend who has it give you Proxy of Nozdormu, these items will make you able to loot these from the Hive-mobs which can be turned in for reputation with Brood of Nozdormu or sold to other players.
IF you don't have the item I recommend you to NOT waste your time looting any Hive-mobs, since they drop no kind of cash nor item worth selling. However, there's a low chance that they will drop Brann Bronzebeard's Lost Letter which gives Brann's Trusty Pick as reward.

On my server right now, I'm checking the AH and they're going for 65s a bar... Mithril bars are going for about 1g 20s a bar. Should I buy the cheap Thorium Bars and resell them at a higher price? Or maybe wait until someone else does or the price rises? I don't even have a stack right now and I'm just wondering if I should bother to farm it. I only have about 700g right now and my mining is at only 236.

Ore-maps are part of a addon. Every place, u recently found ore is saved and displayed, so u can return to places where u once found ore...not sure which addoun it was, but take a look at ctmod ore cursegaming ....search google...

I would say that the best place for Rich Thorium is EPL, but i prefer Burning Stepes as you can find many other diferent veins, like dark iron.

After the final boss of DM East there are 2 to 3 thorium veins. You can usually get to the last boss with only killing a few mobs if you know the right way.

In fact, you CAN get them from the small veins, just has a lower chance. I personally recieved about 3 from small veins on my grind up too 300.

In my opinion the best place for thorium farming is in Winterspring. Be sure to be lvl 58+ if u go there. The richest thorium zone is south, where the lvl 59-60 elites reside. Best zone for roges and druids -> stealth. I am gathering about 50-60 Thorium Ore in one hour and a half of crossing Winterspring like this :)

I have found the ungoro crater good for thorium. its always good for at least 1 large deposit. I make a tanaris run for mithril and usually get a few thoriums in the southern part near the gaping chasm and over to the thistle vally (i think its called)then make a circle through ungoro. about a 1 1/2 hour run produces about 30 mithril and about 15-25 thorium +various gems. i.e aquamarine, star ruby, huge emerald, arcane crystals, etc. not to mention solid stone, dense stone. very productive. and being a level 59, i can skate through without problems. i can help out guildys and have plenty left over to make some nice coin. hope this helps. thanks for reading.

Yes, go to ungoror, and run on the sides of the mountain, when you arrive to the cave with the monkeys in there, go in and search. I have had quite a bit of luck. Gotten at least enough thorium for 10 blacksmithing skill points. And soon will have skill level 300 off farming ungoro. And use 100 fel iron ores! And....extremly easy farming for me since im level 70 XP
Also Burning Steppes is a nice spot to farm a little thorum not as much as ungoro, the caves with ogres in them mostly gives mithirl.

Best place I've found for lvling from about 240-275 is the mine just north of Netherguard Keep in Blasted Lands.
Mobs around about lvl 48. Usually find 2-3 small thorium viens and another 3-5 mithril and occasional gold. I sit there and mine it all, watch some TV for about 15 minutes, and then usually can run through and find a couple more of each.

Lot faster than other places people have suggested.
(Also, on a side note, the 'servant of so-and-so' guys in blasted lands are excellent for lvling weapons skills. As long as you don't destroy their crystal they never die.)

you can lvl up from 1 to 290 from only smelting ores
all points lvl up are easy to get it up exept Mithril and Thorium
on server Twilight's Hammer EU i have a orc war lvl 1 name Metala with 290 mining skill

I find Un'Goro Crater is pretty good for Thorium. The main spawn points are at Fire Plume Ridge, Fungal Rock, and The Slithering Scar. There are also a few dotted around random places in the Crater, which you should find if you just run around for a bit. I haven't found any other very good places for Thorium, but if I do I'll report back here.

P.S - Gatherer is a great mod for Miners and Herbalists alike, which records the location of the veins you've mined and herbs you've picked, and displays them on your World Map. Good luck!

Contrary to what people are posting here, on Norgannon, the price is around 30g a stack! I've seen it as low as 20g. If I saw 10, I'd probably mess myself and then buy up all stacks possible!

On Lightbringer / Azuremyst, stacks are selling for up to 25G on the hordeside. Occasionally people will undercut these, but only for a day or so.

Azshara only has two types of veins:

Mithril

And...

Rich Thorium.

There are no small thorium veins, and multiple rich ones, so u get a stack of thorium in about 30 min.

Gotta tell you a lilte wierd thing here. A full stack of mithril bars on my realm (Bloodhoof, europe) can go away to a happy guy for about 10g (10-12g if you got luck). A full stack of thorium bars cost only 7-5g (!) sometimes. Isn't that wierd really? Or is it just the fact that some people just don't understand that those bars can be sold for 15g? Who know. It's just what I have heard about the prices. And 15g sounds kinnda "tasty" if you know what I mean.

Receive both Liens du Cherchevent (drop rate: 4,08%) from Garr and Liens du Cherchevent (drop rate: 4,28%) from Baron Geddon in Cœur du Magma.
Visit Généralissime Demitrian in Silithus. He will give you Calice de la renaissance to start the quest Examiner le Calice which leads to Tonneraan le Cherchevent.
Kill Ragnaros for Essence du Seigneur du feu (100% drop rate when you have the quest in your log).
Aquire 10x Barre d'élémentium.
Bring your guild and head back to Généralissime Demitrian. Turn in the quest and he will summon Prince Tonneraan which will drop Lame du baiser du vent dormante.

The following quests can be picked up from Artisan Wilhelm at the Light's Hope Chapel in the Maleterres de l'est by completing Le recueil d'Omarion which you get from Maître-artisan Omarion.
He's trapped in a cage in the first room of trash in the Deathknight Wing inside Naxxramas.
With a skill of 300 and high enough reputation, you will be able to choose from a total of 13 different patterns depending on your professions: Couture (4), Travail du cuir (6) or Forge (3).
